GOD’S GIFT TO DADS: THE U.S. OPEN RAIN DELAY ENDED

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY TO ALL THE DADS OUT THERE!

I guess it’s a pretty special thing to be a dad.  This morning when I texted MY dad, he thanked me for being, basically, on the earth to make him a dad.  It was a sweet.

So I am going to go 3rd grade father’s day assigment:

Why My Dad is the BEST”

My dad is the best because he always gives advice even when you don’t ask for it– It usually makes me really irritated but then I end up applying something of what he was saying later in the day… even if it is just remembering the annoyance of unsolicited advise.

My dad is the best because he is so smart.  Not Harvard degree smart, but he could be. But more Life smart than anyone I know– and if he doesn’t have the answer, his brother, my Uncle Joe, sure as hell will (if you can get past the 4 hour conversation it will take to get to the point).

My dad is ultimately the best because he’s always a call, text, email, BBM, Facebook message, or Tweet away– AND because he has unconditionally loved me for about 20 years 9 months and 6 days. (I’m including womb time).

One house party, 6 or 7 overdraft charges, and one disappointing semester– not freaking bad.

The crazy thing about Father’s Day is that the kids usually get the most compliments. Mothers to Fathers cards ready like so:  “Thanks so much for our amazing children.” “I am so proud to have children like ours.” “Our kids are the greatest”.

Maybe that’s just in my fam?

5 Random Facts about My Dad: IMG_1272

1. If he shaves before you go shopping– it is a buying day. (Note to all potential business associates.)

2.  He knows how to drive a tractor, a horse trailer, and a sailboat.

3. He can only beat me a at rummy if I have a few drinks.

4. His hair can get WILD.

5. Whenever he eats a poppyseed bagel he always gets a seed stuck inbetween his front teeth.

He spent this past week in Virginia with my mom and brother. Today he is double dutying father’s day– half the day with my brother, half the day with me. Smart guy. He is flying into DFW this evening from Virginia, so he requested a late dinner– he also sent me a link earlier this week for a gift he wants on amazon for the Kindle.

And honest to God it was what I was going to get him anyway. Isn’t that SO weird?

SO. IN CONCLUSION. DAD’S ROCK, WE NEED THEM.
