WHAT I WANT TO WEAR TO EUROPE

Posted in Fashion, Trends with tags , , , , , , , , , on April 21, 2011 by Me & Marisa

Yes I have continued to cheat on fashion with technology. No I am not proud.

I have to say, I think I have come up with an excuse for why I have not been updating Me and Marisa as much as I normally do — I have not had my memory card reader for my camera!  That and I have been cooped up in my dark office for a little too long… we’ll go with the memory card reader excuse. I lent it to a friend of mine who is currently studying in Europe, and I have decided to get it back!

So I’m going to Europe tomorrow!  Okay just kidding, not about going to Europe but the excuse for “getting my card reader back.”

Going to be gone for 13 days, and frankly I’ve been so busy with work lately that I haven’t had the time to take any kind of extensive shopping trip (my shopping has been limited to slacks and dress shirts… blah).

So here is my little dream board about what I WISH I would be wearing on this European excursion.

P.S. I’m going to set up a Youtube account for Me & Marisa and document my Euro-travels. I’ll update tomorrow with the link to that!

ELTON JOHN’S OSCAR PARTY

Posted in Charity, Fashion, Life, Movies, Music, Oscar Weekend with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 19, 2011 by Me & Marisa

So I guess it was three weekends ago now- yes, yes, I’m slow to post- I attended Elton John’s Oscar Party which is a HUGE fundraiser for his AIDS Charity. I was lucky enough to be invited to the event by a new business partner and went with none other than Steven Tyler and his amazing girlfriend Erin. It was a truly magical night (not to mention the entire weekend!) full of amazing people, and I know I will remember it for the rest of my life.

Also- I got some video of Florence + The Machine performing at the event (she came and did an entire SET) including some of her and Elton performing Tiny Dancer which really completed my life!  I’ll try to get them up on Youtube and post links as well!

I hope to make it back next year, and someday soon bump myself up to the actual Oscars and the Governor’s Ball!  Hope you are enjoying your weekend!!!

-Andrew J

Inside the cocktail and later after party portion of the event tent- check out the mirrored dance floor. It gave me vertigo every time  I stepped on, but it will hold a very dear place in my heart because of a little encounter I had with none other than Vanessa Hudgens there.  Sigh- she’s pretty stunning in person, not going to lie.

This is Sean Parker who is an amazing personal trainer and fitness model in the UK. Super nice guy. P.S. he’s 6’4″!
And then- also from the UK, my friend LUCY!!! Who I have to credit for all of these pictures :). Isn’t she gorgeous? Not to mention she was rocking the heck out of that dress.

At our table inside the dinner and watch party portion of the event.

I love Erin, she is such a fascinating lady and so beautiful! On a side note- SHE is rocking HER Gucci dress like no other.  (Also, never realized till it was pointed out to me… but we look like we are related ha)

And to my left, Mr. Gale Harold from Queer as Folk. Also a very nice guy!

Finally- had to get my picture with Mr. Chase Crawford!  Such a fun night!!!

FASHION’S NIGHT OUT (Part 2) | EVEN MORE DELAYED

Posted in Fashion, Fashion Week, Life, New York, photography, Shoes, Sightseeing, Street Style, Trends with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on December 7, 2010 by Me & Marisa

So I’ve decided Fashion’s Night Out may as well have been renamed “Fashion’s Amazing Window-Displays” because no punches were pulled when it came to awesome displays of style in the window and store displays around the city. Here are the last pics of that night- definitely one to remember!
-Andrew J

Friends in Fashion, I don’t remember their names though… I think his was Nick… Because I was like “Oh Nick, this is Nicholas.” haha. She had a really cool Russian name though I think.
Suzy Menkes- fashion editor for the International Herald Tribune
Victoria Beckham anyone?
Loved this lady! I asked for a picture and she just instinctively posed like this! She was definitely in her “element”.
The guy on the left (Luke) was really nice and soft spoken. We were talking when the guy on the right (Fais) came up and was like “Do you want our picture? We’re models you know.”… he was annoying and ruined an otherwise good picture of a stylish guy- model or no.
Loving this Thom Browne spacesuit Bergdorf display.
Of course, Rodarte.
Check out this girl’s two-tone tights- AWESOME!
There was a big display of these dolls at Barney’s… never figured out what they were… I said Mary -Kate and Ashley designed them haha.
Gucci baby!
Ended the night at Diesel. This guy was hilarious, Nicholas and I were just kinda walking around the store when he was like “Hey you, get over here and let’s get a picture.” hence the weird expression on my face haha. Note to self: Work out… a lot.

I’ve been collecting these photos for the past few weeks of some of my favorite shoes I’ve been seeing. I’m liking three things right now: Wrap around laces, Shiny shoes, and (don’t laugh) velcro/buckle embelishments. But first things first; here is my favorite pair; Gucci baby. Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

CALVIN KLEIN MENSWEAR FALL/WINTER 2010 | HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

Posted in Fashion, Trends with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 14, 2010 by Me & Marisa

In case you weren’t at the show, or just missed it on CalvinKleinCollection.com here are some favorites of mine, and some trends I picked out.  Calvin Klein is one of my absolute favorite designers as I feel the designs capture effortless elegance and class flawlessly. Hope you are having a wonderful Valentines Day!!! Weekend recap tomorrow.
-Andrew J

Opening look. Very traditional Calvin.

I was surprised by this suit, it reminded me more of something I would see out of the house of Gucci than CKM.

Calvin Klein seems to be jumping on the printed suit bandwagon as well. There was a white suit with a much… bolder… print, but I couldn’t capture it because it hurt my eyes.

I salivated over the two trenches they showed. Look at them, giving Burberry a run for their money :)

This was, in my opinion, the most intersting look that they showed… It was probably genuine leather, but it looked like some form of synthetic. In any case, it looked like a built in scarf on the jacket when it came down the runway… Very odd, but I kinda liked it.

And a suit made out of the mystery material. Also, not sure if you can tell or not, but the pants are TIGHT! Like really tight… like retro-how-did-you-ever-breathe tight.

Beautiful look.

The mystery fabric in black. I like this one.

I want this half quilted leather jacket ASAP. When does this come off the line?

The super high-back-of-neck thing was everywhere in the show. I really, really liked it. It was almost like a 1/2 turtleneck.

MENS FALL 2010 | AND I’VE SEEN ALL OF THIS BEFORE…

Posted in Fashion, Trends with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on January 20, 2010 by Me & Marisa

I’m perplexed, disgruntled, and all in all a little let down by the Men’s Fall 2010 lines I’ve seen thus far :(. I know it’s a bad economy and that people aren’t buying designer labels quite the way they used to, but come on; if people are going to shell out more money for a nice label, give them something they can’t find at Macy’s! The shows thus far have been very conservative and basic (*cough* Prada *cough*), but they attempt to spice them up by reintroducing the “horror” themes from last year with ghostly make-up and blood splatter. I hardly ever write a critical post, but I’ve yet to see anything that is leaving me awe struck… or even excited :(. I feel a little bit like Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada when she says “No… and I’ve seen all of this before…”

D&G looked like old school Dsquared with “Snowboarder Chic” (come on, do we really need anymore baggy pants and big Fairisle sweaters?), and Dsquared looked like D&G of old with the torn jeans, long tanks and token shirtless model.

I did manage to find a few pieces that I liked from some of the collections and my findings are below. Hope you enjoy these gems… they were a little hard to come by :/
-Andrew J.

DSQUARED

Not sure how well this look will go over if you aren’t 6’2″ but I like the cardigan and the tie. Something about the jeans remind me of high waisted dad-jeans though…

Loving the leather jacket, I think I need to pick one up in a cut like this. I have a 3/4 length leather trench, but I never wear it :/

I want this coat, like now!

C.P. COMPANY

At first with C.P. Company I was thinking… Sweat pants and plaid… “Groundbreaking.” But they had a couple looks that salvaged their 47 look show.

Great styling on this one

JOHN VARVATOS

CANALI

Canali turned out some very nice, classic pieces that still felt new.

GUCCI

Thank God for Frida Giannini, she basically saved the whole season for me! A bold statement, yes, but Gucci Men’s is one of my absolute favorites and they didn’t let me down a bit!

Dear Gucci, I would love this look sent to me, willing to negotiate on the velvet pants ;). But yes, thank you!

Yes! Si! Sim! Aye! Oui! Yep! Not enough ways to say yes to this look.

GUEST BLOG- LES FEMMES

Posted in Fashion, Guest Blog with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on December 14, 2009 by Me & Marisa

Today we’re doing something we’ve never done before here on Me & Marisa, and that is having a guest blogger. Today the post is coming from one of my extremely fashion savvy friends; Nicolas Bebout. Nicolas has aspirations to go to work at a New York City modeling agency, so it seems only fitting that he would be doing a post on his favorite models of the year. Hope you all had a great weekend! I’m afraid I’m down with the flu :/. Take it away Nicolas!
-Andrew J

Fresh Faces…Different Places: Les Femmes
Fashion may make the man, but a model is what creates the excitement…at least I think so anyways. I thought it would be a brilliant idea for Me and Marisa to have a couple posts about models that were outstanding this past season/year. So I pitched the idea to Andrew and here we are!
-Nicolas

Abbey Lee
Perhaps my favorite female model that is making a huge name for herself at the moment. Lee is making her mark on the runway, walking in shows this past season for the likes of Givenchy, Gucci, Phillip Lim, Zac Posen and Lanvin, just to name a few. She has also made her mark in editorials, major ad campaigns (Calvin Klein and Gucci fragrance), and even walked in the 2009 Victoria’s Secret fashion show. Watch out, this girl is on fire!!

Anna Selezneva
A standout from when I saw her walk the Michael Kors Fall 2009 show, Anna Selezneva reminds me of younger Jessica Stam with her piercing eyes and ability to really take on whatever she is modeling. Selezneva had a great runway season for the Spring 2010 shows and is sure to be back for the Fall 2010 season.

Maryna Linchuk
Maryna has created a great balance between editorial/covers and runway. She excelled in the Spring 2010 show season and creates a great presence when she is photographed.

Toni Garrn
Toni had a great year, especially in print. While Garrn walked in shows like Bottega Veneta, Christian Dior, Fendi, and Chanel, her print work is what got my attention. Major advertising campaigns and covers propelled Toni to more than just a runway model and I can’t wait to see where she shows up next year.

GUYS PROFESSIONAL LOOKS

Posted in Fashion, Life, reader mail, Shopping, Trends with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 1, 2009 by Me & Marisa

As requested, some insight as to what a ‘guy’ wears to work.

When I think of a ‘guy’ I automatically picture a mid-20-something year old– so I have geared these looks towards a young professional.

If you are a banker, you know what to wear, its pretty strict. The growing advertising, journalism, marketing, sales, photography, entrepreneurship world has allowed for a collaboration of self expression and professionalism.  In most environments it is an old joke that the marketing guy walks into a corporate meeting wearing his plaid pajama pants and a shirt he grabbed from under his bed becuase he was in a moment of sheer and utter brilliance.  I think you get like 2 of those passes in your career… and it better be a million dollar epiphany.

So for you ‘guys’ out there looking to score a good job, be seen as a trendy professional, or even just make transitioning from ‘day-to-date’ a little easier, here are some good looks to pull from:

An easy to follow, chic, look from Calvin Klein:  white shirt (3/4 cuff for a more casual look), plain dark tie, grey trousers with a mute pinestripe.

Conveys the message to women: I make money doing something that will provide for our grandchildren.

Take this look from the office to Mi Cocina, loosen the tie, have a margarita, watch the women flock.

pCKI1-5490496_outfit_dt

this ones is a little more trendy if you’re willing to get outta the normal comfort zone.

Gucci:  skinny dress pants, white collared shirt, statement tie (I am loving the shorter and narrow monochromatic strips on this one).  This model is wearing a double breasted trench with this look.  I’d really love this look with a deep red velvet blazer, or even maybe a rich canary.

I’d like to see this outfit at a business dinner at a trendier resturant, or even meeting a client outside of the office.  It says that you know you look damn good.

gucci double breasted trench and skinny pant NM-24V7_mf

The below look is also all Gucci:  I adore the plaid pants.  But you gotta rock them.  if you have any doubts, don’t bother.

I like the contrast of very conservative on top, with the deep burgundy tie, vest, sport coat, and then crazy ass pants.

You need a slamming body to pull this off.  But it is so doable.

I’d totally love going somewhere where you are going to be seen with this guy. Conveys knowledge of how to style with statement pieces without seeming like you care too much.

Gucci Sport Jacket and Wool Pants

This look is alot.  Gucci purple corduroy  blazer with a purple plaid pant (say that 3 times fast).

I think that most guys will have a better chance pulling the top or the bottom half off individually, but not the whole look.

Pair the blazer with some nice dark wash jeans and you’re good to go for a corporate casual friday.

If you’re feeling a little more laid back– an ivory or grey cashmere sweater would really compliment the pants.

Gucci Coudoury jacket and skinny wool pants NM-27M0_mf

The below is definitely one of my favorite looks.  Burberry does men’s clothes SO well.

Dark slacks, white shirt, slate grey tie, scarf, and gorgeous overcoat.

paired with the dark shoe.

this look is lethal… total Harvard or Yale grad look.

Mens_newarrivals_110809

back to casual fridays for our southern states.

Another great look from Calvin Klein.

Nice v-neck striped sweater with some dark slacks.

always flattering. simple and sexy.

easy for anyone to pull off.  But i really wanna see a big industrial watch on his wrist for a little edge.

….and maybe a wool red check scarf.

pCKI1-5868269_outfit_dt

This below outfit is amazing for work travel.  Nice dark wash jeans, red accent loafers, a gorgeous distressed chocolate leather jacket and a cool scarf.

Nothing can wrinkle and you look put together getting off the plane.

Plus loafers rock going through security.

Leather bomber and Jeans NM-27M5_mf

Another more formal look from burberry.

Narrow slacks,  white oxford, skinny tie, cardigan, and a nice dark blazer.

This look can go all around from a formal meeting with Clients to a casual internal meeting at P.F. Changs.

Also easy to break down pieces for later in the night.  Pull the cardigan off and throw on just the sports coat and its perfect for going out for drinks.

This can also be “causal-ed” by opting for some nice straight leg dark denim jeans.

mens_knitwear_080609

…and this is the way to run into the office when you have that moment of utter brillance.

Gucci:  a cool track jacket, loud sweater, some dark denim, and cool sneakers.

It will take you just as much time to grab a T and a hoodie and sweat pants as it would to grab these items.

(plus you wouldn’t have to smell them for mold or check for pit stains)

Gucci Track jacket and jeans NM-27M7_mf

As far as business accessories go I am obsessed with this Burberry Two Pocket Twill tote for men.

twill velvet twin bocket tote bag burberry

Statment Gucci Aviators add some edge to any of the above outfits.  Especially if you are rocking the all black and white, these are perfect.

Gucci Avaitors

I really think that this Brera is the perfect watch for most men.  Simple  good sized face but obviously a high quality.

brera watch

Some great classic looks that you can mix and match.  Always wear what you are comfortable in, but if you want to shake it up a bit, start small.

I recommend scarves, they are very easy to toss in the back of the car if you decide that you had the confidence for the canary wool scarf at 7 when you left for starbuck, but it just isn’t working for the rest of the day.

Plaid pants, on the other hand, are a little hard to back out during your morning commute.

Have a great week.

SHOPPING IS CHEAPER THAN THERAPY

Posted in Dallas, Fashion, Food, Life, Shopping with tags , , , , , , , , , , on June 24, 2009 by Me & Marisa

I’ve been having a little personal retail therapy this past week.

P.S. I deserved it. At least my mom said so.

I’ve had my eye on these Burberry Studded Ankle Strap Pumps.  They are covered with beautiful pyramid studs on the heel cup and the ankle strap. Delicate from the front with a “don’t f-ing mess with me” vibe from behind.

Picture 4

I also dug the Manolo Blahnik studded leather open toe t-strap sandles Very cool- but maybe a little too generic to spend my whole pay check on.

Picture 18

But then I couldn’t pass up these Jeffery Campbell’s that I found in Assembly in West Village.  They are ridiculous, over the top, and I couldn’t live without them.  They blew the Burberrys straight out the water, for me at least.

Picture 3

IMG_0471

I also grabbed these pearl encrusted platform sandals as well. I cant wait to wear them with some skinny jeans and a white tee—totally simple with  a party at the bottom.  They will be awesome to cover up the ankle strap during the day for a more subtle look and then cuff the jeans and go all out for the evening….oh and 50% off is such as selling point ;) thanks Dani, aka the coolest chick at Assembly.

IMG_0465

They are ludicrously comfortable as well.

Also on my adventure at Assembly I picked up a really cute sheer black top, William Rast Scarlet shorts, and the Stella bootcut jeans. I know ill be wearing everything very soon, so ill just post pictures of those goodies another day.

IMG_0481

I also forgot how freaking cool the boxes for the Jeffery Campbell shoes are.  They all have like a different cool/ random story in the inside bottom of the box.  This ones is just a random “singles” page of people that he works with. Quite Hilarious.  And of course, myself being in advertising and marketing- Brilliant.

IMG_0488

…and cue everyone tilt their head to the left.  It’s a love confession letter in the bottom of another J. Campbell box.  Love it.

Picture 1

In my travels I will be looking for these Elizabeth and James “Haley” wedges.  They are the perfect contrast to my recent Jeffery Campbell purchases.  They look totally comfortable.  About a 4” heel with a 1” platform brings me to a nice 5’10 height—ill take it.

Picture 6

I also am obsessed with this Robert Lee Morris Cluster Sphere bracelet.. Amazing masculine leather strap with a silver buckle, spheres, and pistons—I love it. Remarkably badass; with just enough glam.

Picture 14

And on my luxe list….

The ‘New Jackie’ shoulder bag in the grey guccissima leather with grey leather trim.  Gucci does bags so well.  I have had mine for about 9 years and I just cant seem to part with it, no matter how ratty the sides get.  This one may be a perfect replacement.

Picture 12

Also–to the Dallasites.

If you haven’t been to Cru a Wine Bar in the West Village you must go now.  If you can hold off until Sunday they have half-price bottles of wine—which is awesome.  They have just a long enough menu to allow everyone to choose their favorite wine.  My dad arrived in to DFW around 9pm on Sunday and he and I went out to catch some late munchies and a drink, Cru was perfect.

Picture 11

Off the street enough to not be bothered by the stumbles and screams coming out of Social House, but still in the vicinity to watch the antics.

We shared the flight of Sauvignon Blancs and I ordered a glass of my new favorite—Its from Spain—I will have to go back and get the name.  Also whole heartedly recommend the Cru House Salad.  My dads Gorgonzola and Pear rustic pizza looked divine as well.  I apologize for the Blackberry Pics, left my camera in the car.
